A prospective change in Climate Change Policy of India

A prospective change in Climate Change Policy of India

There has been a loud cries in the recent media and also within the political arena, regarding the letter sent by Union Minister of Environment and Forests on reverse in the established policy in the area of Climate Change negotiations to Prime MInister suggesting that India take on the  Kyoto Protocol Binding Targets of Emission reduction and align with G20 nations rather than with G77 developing nations. This suggestion has been scathingly lamblasted by politicos across all parties including his own party. The Congress party alienated the Jayaram on this issue. This particular act has been paised by the US and other developed countries. Basically this shift from the earlier proposal of India open itself for the international scrutiny on unilaterally undertaken emission cut programmes.

It is acceptible for the developed nations with historical debt of emmissions by their industries for decades together and apart from that the Super Polluter US which have emissions more than any country, should take up the emission cuts along with other nations by binding to the Kyoto protocol targets. India cannot escape the Target emission cuts saying that it is a developing nation with aim of growing into a developed nation, if concentrated on the emission targegts it would miss Growth targets. Along with India, China should also take up these targets which the fastest growing countries of world should be the role model for other developing and under developed countries. There has been a voice of India have a fraction of percapita of emissions compared with the US, which is not true as India with billion people diluted the figures.

Why should India take up such targets even it is not responsible to mess created by developed nations?

India with the name of fastest developing nation aims to be Developed nation, it should not commit the same mistakes made by the developed nation. Also climate change is irreversible phenomena, so it is very serious and urgency to stop it and take up the remedial steps to protect already deteriorating Climate. It is infact the responsiblity of each and every nation to protect this earth from destruction without any excuses. There has been various instances which already visible with calamities like glacier reductions, storms and increase in sea water level fastly submerging cities like Shangai and islands like Maritius and Maldives. There is has been lesser agricultural production in India and other parts of the world with 'Alnino' effect of the climate on monsoon this year. It has been Govt of India declared drought in many districts with inadequate rainfall affecting the monsoon rainfall in India due to climate change and heavy rains affecting the paddy and other crops in south India leading to deaths and food shortage, hike in food prices, economy and atlast growth of the entire country is affected.
It is not any developed, developing and under developed country is responsiblity to stop this Climate change and save the Earth. It is the every ones responsiblity to use energy judicously and take steps to contain the climate change for sake us and for our future generations.

So lets change ourself and contian the Climate change by going GREEN ! !
